Best of B&B Italia for the outdoors
An extension of life indoors, the B&B Italia Outdoor collection is designed with comfort and beauty in mind. All time favourites include Patricia Urquiola's Canasta, and classics from Mario Bellini’s 1972 Le Bambole sofa collection to the organic Tobi-Ishi table by Barber Osgerby. Behind every timeless piece is the brand’s approach to relaxed elegance, clearly defined by a dynamic selection of materials, textures and colours.

The brand’s approach to relaxed elegance, iconic pieces, timelessness and a dynamic selection of materials, textures and colours defines the B&B Italia Outdoor collection. It’s an expansive range that includes sofas, sun beds, chairs and armchairs, and tables for dining and nesting.
When B&B Italia began developing the collection, the focus was innovation, materials and manufacturing know-how that would translate to the harsher realities of life outdoors. B&B Italia’s most loved pieces were engineered to withstand the weather, and new pieces have significantly expanded the range, like Monica Armani’s Jackie O’ inspired Flair O’ Outdoor chair that exudes the colours and energy of the ‘60s.
'We live our time according to new rhythms. Everything is more fluid... Flair O' and Allure 'O were inspired by the shapes and volumes of the 1960s era that was so magical.
Monica Armani, Studio Monica Armani
Materials are varied, from highly functional aluminium for designs including the Erica ’19 armchair and sofa family designed by Antonio Citterio, the macro interlacing of polyethylene for Patricia Urquiola’s decorative Canasta and Nipa Doshi & Jonathan Levien’s Bay sofa collections, as well as classic designs in wood by Naoto Fukasawa, Vincent Van Duysen and Antonio Citterio, and fully upholstered sofas like Ray, also by Citterio, complete with soft, washable cushions. For B&B Italia the flexibility of the outdoor sofa is key. L-shaped and peninsular configurations and sun beds allow multiple configurations for relaxation, and, like B&B Italia’s indoor ranges, are embedded with provenance, comfort, flexibility and design quality.

'For me, Canasta is the image of a pattern. It doesn’t want to imitate nature, even though a sort of crystallised natural pattern shows up in the tiles decorating the tables and accessories... I designed enveloping shapes that give the idea of protection. And I studied new forms of ergonomics to satisfy every moment of a day spent outdoors.'

Collection highlights:
Erica '19 sofa collection
by Antonio Citterio
A range of chairs, armchairs and sofas, the Erica ’19 is defined by its woven detailing in two-colour combinations, a painted aluminium frame and seat cushions in a wide range of fabrics.
La Bambola sofa collection by Mario Bellini
The Bambola armchair, part of the iconic Le Bambole collection designed by Mario Bellini in 1972 and awarded the Compasso d’Oro in 1979, landed in 2024 for the outdoors. Its signature soft curves and welcoming shapes that made the original design a classic, are now made with recycled and recyclable weather-resistant and high-performance materials that balance beauty with durability and sustainability.
Canasta sofa collection by Patricia Urquiola
Inspired by the decorative pattern of woven Vienna straw, Patricia Urquiola enlarged the detail to macro proportions, using woven ribbons polyethylene fibre. Classic in style with a contemporary twist, Canasta is a hyper-decorative collection, ideal for use at the edge of a swimming pool or amongst the trees. In addition to sofas, the family includes armchairs and small tables in various sizes.
Flair O' chairs and Allure O' table by Monica Armani
Monica Armani’s Flair O’ chair has a lightweight aluminium frame covered with interlacing polypropylene ribbons using an artisan weaving process. Available in sophisticated shades, the design is completed by two padded cushions that define the shape and provide even more comfort.
Proposed with a square and rectangular top and in two heights, the Allure O’ table base is made of moulded cement that is solid and easily adapts to the outdoors. Tops are made in light concrete or a glossy glazed stoneware produced using an artisanal technique, each piece manually glazed for unique depth and colour variety.
Tobi-Ishi table
by Barber Osgerby
A tribute to the spiritual Zen garden and the smooth polished stones that define them, the outdoor version of the iconic dining table is made of cement in four colours, its round overhanging top and vertical trapezoidal bases set at right angles to generate a sculptural form that appears to change shape depending on the point of observation.
Ribes sofa collection
by Antonio Citterio
Ribes means transformation and here the focus is on versatility, colour and customisation. The starting point is a futon base with flexible glass fibre slats resting on an aluminium frame, with two types of armrest or backrest, one with a polypropylene fibre interlacing, the other with a roller cushion. By substituting, adding or varying the position of the back and armrests, the base can turn into a face-to-face sofa, an island, a corner sofa or a comfortable bed.
Bay armchair
by Doshi Levian
Bay is a sculptural, monolithic collection of braided outdoor designs. Combining padded seats and soft cushions that reflect the elegance, comfort and refinement of B&B Italia’s indoor products, the armchair’s double braiding creates air pockets that add transparency and lightness to the collection.
Butterfly sofa collection by Patricia Urquiola
Formed in the shape of a butterfly, the generous lines respond to modularity and comfort, offering flexible modularity. The ottoman is the central element, with a simple joint system that allows versatile configurations, from in-line sofas to corner solutions, from front-facing to lounge layouts. Completely upholstered, Butterfly brings outdoors the quality and comfort that have always characterised B&B Italia’s indoor sofa collections.
