Green Space Initiatives 2012 

Singapore, April 12, 2012 – In commemoration of Earth Day, Space unveiled five spectacular Green Space installations at the Bencoolen showroom each featuring a Green Space Hero product conceptualised by prolific local design practices.

The five participating design practices and their respective Green Space Hero products are (in alphabetical order): HJGHER for Flos Kelvin LED light, Ministry of Design for Fritz Hansen Series 7 chair, Peter Tay Studio for B&B Italia Husk chair, Takenouchi Webb for Emeco 111 Navy chair and Terre for Carl Hansen & Son Wishbone chair.

Space partnered with Cubes magazine in identifying design practices to work with for this project. The design practices are chosen based on their varied backgrounds and influences to see how they would each interpret the project.

The cocktail reception was well-attended by the design community, seeing more than 120 guests in attendance. Special guests include the head honchos of the participating design practices Jerry Goh and Justin Long from HJGHER, Colin and Joy Seah from MOD, Peter Tay, Marc Webb and Naoko Takenouchi from Takenouchi Webb and Terence Chan from Terre.

“By way of engaging the design community, we have created an opportunity for the designers to interact with our Green Space Heroes first hand and understand why they are our flag bearers. In addition, we are guaranteed a high level of creativity in presentation and consequentially having the designers and their works become the ambassadors of Green Space,” says Mr. Syddal Wee, general manager of Space – Asia.

“This also ensures a needed level of accessibility to a potentially serious subject matter. More consumers can then be informed. All-in-all, everybody wins!”

Space has also partnered with WWF Singapore for Adopt-a-Plant initiative where clients are encouraged to donate generously and bring home a plant of their choice. Hundred percent of proceeds will be channeled to WWF Singapore, the appointed beneficiary.
